One tiny product, one stroke of a brush for a prettier face. Youthful-looking, lively skin which has a nicer shade. It’s like using a magic wand. The magical power of blushers makes them remain the best-sellers. If you also have at least one blusher in your beauty bag, you must be aware of the power that the right blush conceals. The question is, however, how to choose the right one? Let us tell you how to pick and use it for the best effect.
Believe it or not…
… the history of blushers reaches the times of ancient Egypt and Greece. The contemporaries used juices extracted from red fruit and vegetables to color their cheeks. In Europe, beetroots, raspberries or lily of the valley juice were used. Above all, pinching the cheeks was (and is) the most effective way to give them a blush.
… the Middle Ages weren’t fond of blushy cheeks as they equalled low social status and peasantry. Instead, pale, porcelain, flawless skin was desired. Blushers made a comeback no sooner than in the 17th century when people started smudging their cheeks with the dangerous lead.
Nowadays, blush-touched cheeks are the synonym of healthy skin and vital body. They enhance the face shape and make a perfect match with a bronzer. The key thing is you apply it the right way and choose it wisely. How no to spoil makeup with wrong blusher?
Blusher: how to apply it?
- Small quantities, above all. It is extremely important because too much blusher stands out, making the face look cartoonish and grotesque. Remember that blushed cheeks shouldn’t be the boldest element in your makeup. Keep calm – a single precise stroke of a brush will do.
- Don’t smile while applying the blusher. When you smile, the whole face ‘works’ and the apples of the cheeks rise. A blusher should be a finishing touch in your makeup routine.
- Apply starting at the temples and gently move towards the nasal bridge. The thickest layer should stay under the hairline. Blend the contours so there’s no striking line of the blusher on the cheeks.
- If you use a cream blusher, gently dab it in skin until it blends with the skin and whole makeup and dust it with some powder. When it comes to loose or pressed blushers, apply them using an angled brush after applying a powder – shake the excess off the brush to avoid ending up with a big red spot on the cheek.
Blusher: how to choose the right shade?
The blush color must be chosen individually. Just remember that the shade can’t be too strong – go for soft colors and pay attention to your beauty type: cool skin tone goes with a blush having gentle bluish or silver flecks whereas warmer skin tones prefer gold shimmery blushes.
Remember! Knowing whether your beauty type goes with warm peach or cool cherry blush is a must. Mismatched shade colors your cheeks in an unnatural way and disturbs your entire makeup – it gives your fake blush away…
Blush and its types
- Pressed blush – the most common and popular blush which, at the same time, gives the most natural-looking effect. Delicate, subtle, holds out long.
- Stick blush – growing in popularity due to extremely easy application. It looks like a lipstick and lets you precisely enhance the cheeks. What’s more, a stick blusher gives a long-wear effect of moisturised, radiant skin.
- Cream blush – designed for the fans of long-wear products that stay indifferent to wind, rain or other vagaries of the weather. Another benefit focuses on its multi-tasking – it enhances your lips as well. The effect that the cream blush gives is slightly stronger so be careful while getting the right shade.
- Loose blush – it is usually a mineral powder. Unusually gentle and durable, giving a long-wear effect. Loose version of a blush requires skills and some makeup experience. It has a lightweight consistency, effortlessly blends with the skin, its formula makes skin look healthy and radiant.
